Driving Safely
- The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) estimates that over one-third of all road traffic accidents, over 500 deaths a year, involve someone who is working at the time. This implies that, for the majority of people, one of the most dangerous things they do at work is drive on a public highway. It is estimated that over 100 people are killed or seriously injured each week in accidents involving someone driving or riding for work purposes within the UK.
- Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) research shows that accident rates for business drivers are nearly 50% higher than for private motorists of the equivalent age and sex. Over two-thirds of those who drive for work are involved in activities other than carrying passengers or goods. 40% of these drivers are involved in sales, drive to attend meetings or drive for general business activities.
